Position Purpose Perform journey level duties in the construction, maintenance, inspection, installation, and repair of campus facilities. This position has a strong emphasis on performing journey/occupational level electrical and electrical equipment and generator maintenance work. Nature and Scope This position reports to the Assistant Facilities Services Manager and is responsible for performing journey level work on campus facilities. This position requires the ability to work independently, overhead, in tight quarters, and from ladders and man lifts, as well as perform heavy lifting, with manual dexterity and complete mobility. Depending on the assigned project, this position works independently, collaboratively as a team member, and as a team leader. Essential Functions Perform journey level maintenance and repair of campus facilities in trades with an emphasis on electrical and electrical equipment maintenance to include generators; the following are examples of typical work performed: Electrical: work in live electrical panels, switch out breakers, run wire, read and follow blueprints, install new or modify existing branch circuits, etc. Electrical equipment maintenance: perform preventative maintenance and/or replacement on pumps, motors, and compressors. Generator maintenance: troubleshoot, test, and repair of individual mechanical and electrical components on generators. Perform work associated with assigned small-scale maintenance and electrical projects. Install and work from scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, and other platforms. Read and interpret blueprints and drawings related to assigned projects. Inspect equipment and mechanical systems. Inspect and service emergency standby generators, automatic transfer switches, and mechanical transfer switches. Troubleshoot reported problems on electrical and mechanical systems and make adjustments, repairs, and corrections as required. Instruct helpers and other maintenance workers as required. Maintain and comply with safety standards for the maintenance and construction trades. Develop preliminary cost estimates for fabrication, installation, and repairs. Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner. Attend meetings and training, as assigned. Drive service vehicles, load and unload materials and supplies, and operate heavy equipment, such as trencher, jackhammer, lifts, forklifts, etc. as required. Assume lead duties when required.
